Google launches Googlebook: five Android laptops starting at $899
Google has officially launched the Googlebook — a new category of Android-powered laptops built by five major manufacturers — with US sales starting October 4 and the UK, France, Germany, Ireland, and Australia following on October 5, per 9to5Google. Five models span $899 to $1,299, putting Googlebook squarely against the MacBook Air and Windows Copilot+ PCs. Pre-orders are live now at the Google Store and major retailers.
The platform
Googlebook OS runs on the Android stack with ChromeOS desktop foundations, as The Verge details. The interface uses Google's Material 3 Expressive design language — the same look as recent Pixel phones and watches. A quick-settings panel and a Files-based file system keep the experience close to Android. You can stream apps directly from your phone to the laptop screen, and Gemini AI is woven into the OS rather than bolted on. Every Googlebook also has a Glowbar: an LED strip along the lid that animates in Google's colors when you open or close it, shows battery level, and pulses during Gemini responses. Third-party interactive effects are planned.

Five models, two chip families
Google's OEM partners each brought one device to launch. The ASUS Googlebook design revealed: Glowbar lid, Gemini key, and a $1,390 price tag has now been confirmed, and the Lenovo Googlebook 15 details match the official specs.
Intel Core Ultra (3rd-gen) models:
- Acer Googlebook 14 ($899+) — 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen, Core Ultra 5 or 7, 16 GB RAM, from 256 GB storage, aluminum/magnesium chassis, up to 16 hours battery. - ASUS Googlebook 14 ($1,299+) — similar 14-inch OLED, adds a 32 GB RAM option and a haptic touchpad, up to 16 hours battery. - Lenovo Googlebook 15 ($1,099) — 15.3-inch OLED, Core Ultra 5, magnesium and carbon fiber chassis, face and fingerprint unlock, up to 13 hours battery.
Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite models:
- Dell XPS Googlebook ($1,199+) — 13.4-inch 2.5K LCD touchscreen, 16 or 32 GB RAM, 512 GB+ SSD, machined aluminum unibody, up to 18 hours web browsing. - HP Googlebook 14 ($1,299+) — 14-inch OLED, full-aluminum chassis, haptic touchpad, face and fingerprint unlock, up to 19 hours battery — the longest in the lineup.
What comes in the box
Every Googlebook ships with a substantial software bundle: 12 months of Google AI Pro (5 TB storage), 12 months of GeForce NOW cloud gaming, and 12 months of Luminar photo editing. You also get 3 months each of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, CapCut, and BandLab. Google's own blog post put the full bundle value at $239.88 for the US.
GBP pricing has not been announced — the US dollar figures are the only confirmed numbers ahead of the October 5 UK launch date. If you were following the earlier pre-order speculation, those details are now confirmed. Google promises 10 years of OS support for all Googlebook models, matching the long-term commitment it recently made to ChromeOS.
