Motorola Signature 27: B&O audio, 200MP zoom, and a serious bid for the flagship tier
Motorola has unveiled the Signature 27 at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, marking the brand's most serious push into the premium flagship space in years. The phone runs Qualcomm's new 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 — the same chip expected inside the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra — and pairs it with Bang & Olufsen audio tuning, a first for any Motorola device. North America gets it in November 2026, with a global rollout by the end of the year.
The hardware
The Signature 27 ditches the familiar square camera island for an asymmetric layout across a flat plateau — a design that echoes the classic Droid Razr line. Motorola is calling the year-based naming system official: the number now denotes the launch year rather than a generation count.
Inside, Qualcomm's Oryon cores clock up to 5.0 GHz. To handle the heat from sustained AI workloads and gaming, Motorola built its ArcticMesh cooling system: a 3D vapor chamber 40% larger than the previous generation, combined with liquid metal, a copper mesh layer, and diamond-particle thermal paste.
The Signature 27's asymmetric camera layout draws on Motorola's Droid Razr heritage.
The cameras
Motorola is leading with two confirmed sensors on a quad-camera rear module. The main shooter uses a 50MP Sony LYTIA 910 with a 1/1.28-inch optical format — a large sensor by any measure. The periscope telephoto lands at 200MP with Super Zoom Pro technology, reaching 100x magnification through generative AI processing. A 3.5-degree optical image stabilization system covers handheld shooting in motion, and a new Video Enhancement Engine adjusts color and dynamic range in real time.
Full specs — display size, battery capacity, charging speeds, RAM and storage — haven't been released yet. Motorola says more details are coming soon.
The finish and software
Two color options are available: Coal Smoke with a Tactical Weave texture and Capulet Olive with a textile finish. Both carry IP68 and IP69 ratings alongside MIL-STD-810H certification, so dust, water, and drops are covered. The stereo speakers are tuned by Bang & Olufsen — per Android Police, this is the brand's first partnership with a premium audio label.
Motorola is promising seven years of Android OS updates and security patches — a commitment that puts it on par with Samsung and Google's current pledges.
What's missing
No price has been confirmed. The original Motorola Signature launched at £899.99 in the UK; the Signature 27 is expected to push past that, likely targeting iPhone Pro and Galaxy S-class buyers at $1,200 or above. Carrier partnerships for the US are also unannounced, which matters — carrier shelf space has historically defined whether a Motorola flagship gains traction stateside.
The OnePlus 16 runs the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip and will compete directly on specs. What Motorola is betting on is differentiation: the B&O; audio partnership, the asymmetric design, and a long software support window that its rivals only recently matched.
