Xiaomi 18 Pro launches with dual 200MP Leica cameras and a transparent back — but US and UK availability is unclear
Xiaomi launched the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max on September 23, making them the first phones globally to run Qualcomm's new 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform. Both models carry dual 200MP Leica cameras and a second-generation Super Pixel OLED display with 4,000-nit peak brightness. A transparent "Explorer Edition" was teased on Weibo the same day — but pricing and Western availability remain unconfirmed, per Liaow.
The hardware
The camera system is the headline spec. Both phones get two 200MP sensors: a main 1/1.28-inch module and a periscope telephoto at 1/1.56 inches with 3.2x optical zoom — all tuned by Leica. The M11 OLED panel hits 4,000 nits and squeezes bezels down to 0.99mm. Xiaomi also built in a hardware privacy display that makes the screen unreadable from side angles — a direct challenge to Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Battery capacity is generous: 7,000 mAh in the Pro, 8,500 mAh in the Pro Max. The Pro Max also steps up to a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme, a binned variant of the same chip. The base Xiaomi 18, meanwhile, was deliberately held back — CEO Lu Weibing confirmed it will be announced separately.
The transparent angle
The Explorer Edition is a design callback to 2020's Mi 10 Ultra Transparent Edition, the last time Xiaomi put a see-through back panel on a flagship. Before that, there was the Xiaomi 8 Explorer Edition and the Xiaomi 9 Transparent Edition. The new version was teased via a cryptic Weibo post with the phrase "Let's explore together," notes TechOutlook. No pricing, specs, or market availability have been announced for that variant.
The US and UK question
Global availability is the catch. The Xiaomi 17 Pro never left China, and there is a real chance the Pro models follow the same path. A rollout to international markets is expected between December 2026 and early 2027, but no US or UK retailer has opened pre-orders, and no regional pricing has been set. Estimated figures put the Pro series in the $1,249–$1,499 range — squarely against the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra — but those numbers are not confirmed. If you import before an official launch, TechCabal warns there are real risks around warranty coverage and network band compatibility.
