Timex launches three automatic Waterbury Heritage watches with transparent caseback
Timex has added three automatic watches to its Waterbury Heritage lineup, and they're available right now in the US and UK. The most significant addition is the brand's first-ever automatic day-date complication in this series, starting at $449 (£375) — a price that lands well below comparable Seiko 5 Sports and entry-level Swiss options.
The watches
Two 39mm stainless steel models run the Miyota 8205 movement, which displays both the day of the week and the date. One comes with a blue enamel dial and silver bracelet for $449 (£375); the other pairs a black dial with a two-tone bracelet for $469 (£385). Both cases measure 13.5mm thick.
The third model, the Waterbury Heritage Automatic GMT, steps up to a 41.5mm case at 14mm thick. It uses a NH34 automatic movement with 24 jewels and adds a red GMT hand for tracking a second time zone. The bezel is finished in black and burgundy. Price: $579 (£475).
All three share the same core spec sheet — domed K1 mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, luminescent hands and indices, a transparent caseback for viewing the movement, and 50m water resistance. The stainless steel bracelets feature quick-release links that adjust without tools, per Gear Patrol.
Worth considering
The automatic day-date complication is genuinely new territory for the Waterbury Heritage line. At $449, Timex is targeting buyers who want a mechanical watch with calendar function but don't want to spend Seiko Prospex or Hamilton Khaki money. The NH34 in the GMT model is a well-regarded movement that also appears in watches costing considerably more.
The 50m water resistance rating is adequate for rain and handwashing but not swimming or diving — worth noting if you're eyeing the GMT for travel. EU pricing runs €429–€549 according to Notebookcheck, available via Timex's own sites and authorized retailers including Amazon.
