God of War: Laufey preorders are live: $69.99 or $79.99

If you want God of War: Laufey on day one, you can now lock in your copy. Sony and Santa Monica Studio opened preorders on September 29 at 10am local time. The game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive and launches on February 16, 2027. Only the cheaper edition comes on a disc, so your choice affects how you can play, resell or lend it.

The editions

The Standard Edition costs $69.99 / £69.99 and comes on disc or as a download. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99 / £79.99 and is download-only. No collector's edition has been announced.

Everyone who preorders gets the Last Wish armor set. They also get a Golden Leaves cosmetic for Phranque, the talking cube from the series.

Deluxe adds the following:

- the Dark Alchemy armor set, with matching gear - an in-game resource pack - a digital mini artbook - a digital soundtrack

Sony's earlier preorder rundown covers the bonuses in more detail. Pricing is the same in the US and UK, so UK buyers pay the same number in pounds.

The story

A new trailer accompanies the launch. It is essentially a shortened cut of the earlier gameplay reveal. Sony's PlayStation channel posted it.

Players control Faye, Kratos' late wife, who is also called Laufey. After the funeral shown at the start of 2018's God of War, she ends up in Everywhen, an afterlife for gods and mythical beings. There she faces the Egyptian war goddess Sekhmet and Begtse, a Mongolian-Tibetan protector deity also known as Jamsaran.

Her goal is to get back to Kratos and their son Atreus. If that fails, she wants to help ensure the ancient prophecies of the giants come true. Phranque and Ru, keeper of a magic ribbon, help her along the way. Deborah Ann Woll, known for Daredevil, returns to voice Faye.

Where to buy

Preorders are open on the PlayStation Store and at major retailers including Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop in the US. UK shoppers can also use Amazon and other high-street stores. Retailers sometimes discount big games close to launch, but a preorder guarantees you a place in the queue and the bonus armor.

The game arrives after a June showcase season in which Phranque drew plenty of debate. The February date has been official since July. Sony hasn't said anything yet about a Deluxe upgrade discount for Standard buyers or about paid add-ons after launch.
