Samsung's first Googlebook shows up in Geekbench

If you're eyeing one of the new Googlebooks, Samsung may soon give you another option. A laptop with model number XE940XSA has turned up in Geekbench 7.1.0, a public benchmark database. It lists a Snapdragon X Elite chip, 16GB of RAM and Android 17. Samsung hasn't announced anything, so treat this as a leak. It would be the sixth brand on the platform, after Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo.

The listing

The chip is probably the X1E-80-100, a 4nm processor with 12 Oryon cores and an Adreno X1-85 graphics unit, according to SamMobile. Dell and HP use the same silicon in their Googlebooks. Acer, Asus and Lenovo went with Intel Core Ultra 5 instead.

The listing doesn't show a product name, storage size or release date. The 16GB of RAM matches every launch model, which also ship with 512GB of storage. For context on what that memory buys you, see our guide on whether you need 32GB.

The competition

Googlebooks reached US stores on October 4 and the UK on October 5. Tech Advisor puts UK prices between £999 and £1,299. Acer sits at the cheap end. Dell's Snapdragon model costs £1,099 and HP's £1,199. US pricing starts at $899, Notebookcheck reports.

Samsung has sold Windows laptops with the same chip family. The Galaxy Book4 Edge used the Snapdragon X Elite, and the newer Galaxy Book6 Edge uses the X2 Elite. A switch to Android would be a change of direction. It would also line up with the company's tablets, such as the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, which Samsung is launching on October 7.

The open questions

Samsung's pitch would likely rest on One UI, its software layer on Galaxy phones and tablets. Nobody knows whether it will bring that to a laptop. Price, name and launch date are also unknown, and so is whether the machine will ship in the US and UK at all.

Google has described the platform as AI-first, as covered in Google's Googlebook wants to be your next laptop — AI-first, Android-powered, due this fall. With similar specs across all five existing brands, Samsung's extras will have to do the work. If you're not in a hurry, waiting for an official announcement costs you little.
