Bitcoin Surges 8% in September, Nearing All-Time Highs as "Uptober" Optimism Rises
Bitcoin closed September 2026 with an 8% increase, settling at $83,621 by the end of the month. This is its highest level since January, after even nearing $87,000 in the preceding weeks. With this movement, the market's main cryptocurrency positioned itself just 2% away from entering positive territory in the accumulated balance of the year.
The start of the fourth quarter reactivates expectations for the so-called 'Uptober', a seasonal pattern whereby nearly 70% of October months have historically been bullish for the asset. This uptick comes after the market absorbed adverse macroeconomic and regulatory factors in September, including the U.S. Senate's rejection of the Clarity Act regulatory project — with a vote of 49 to 50 — and the 25 basis point interest rate hike agreed by the Federal Reserve on September 16.
The main support for the price has been the sustained inflow of institutional capital. Spot bitcoin ETFs in the United States captured $3.155 billion in net inflows during September. The data mark three consecutive months of positive flows, a streak not seen since the summer of 2025. With these contributions, the assets under management by these vehicles surpassed the $100 billion mark again, reaching $107.960 billion.
As for short- and medium-term prospects, Javier Molina, spokesperson for eToro, sets the base scenario in a constructive dynamic accompanied by phases of consolidation and correction, ruling out a purely linear advance. On the other hand, Ignacio Santos, CEO of Fazil Crypto, points to a possible transition towards an accumulation and growth phase by the end of the year. The main catalyst will continue to be demand: if inflows into ETFs continue, they could keep supporting price appreciation, and for this it would not be necessary for the Federal Reserve to lower rates, but simply not to substantially tighten its monetary policy.
