Xiaomi will upgrade the batteries in your 14 and 14 Pro — but only if you're in China
Xiaomi is offering paid battery upgrades for the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro in China from October 1, replacing the stock cells with higher-capacity alternatives for 189 yuan (roughly $28). The standard Xiaomi 14 goes from 4,610 mAh to 4,795 mAh, while the 14 Pro jumps more substantially from 4,880 mAh to 5,140 mAh. For US and UK owners, there's no confirmed path to this service — yet.
The upgrade
The service launches on Xiaomi Mall, with a 20% early-bird discount running October 1–7, dropping the price to around 151 yuan (~$22). That's a notably aggressive price point: Apple charges £89–119 for a standard battery swap in the UK, and Xiaomi's premium here nets you a net gain of up to 260 mAh on top of replacement, per Zamin.uz.
This isn't the first time Xiaomi has run a program like this. In April 2026, the Xiaomi 13 Pro received a similar upgrade, going from 4,820 mAh to 5,361 mAh — an 11% capacity gain. That program is still China-only more than five months later, which is a reasonable indicator of what to expect for the 14 series globally, reports Gizmochina.

Why the 14 Ultra is excluded
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra isn't part of the program, and the reason is technical rather than arbitrary. It already ships with a Jinshajiang silicon-carbon anode battery — a more advanced cell that is 8% smaller by volume than conventional cells while packing more capacity. There's simply no higher-spec drop-in replacement available for it yet.
The 14 Pro's upgrade ceiling at 5,140 mAh is also telling. EU ADR transport regulations cap single-cell batteries at roughly 5,200 mAh for international shipment, which means the upgraded Pro is already bumping against the regulatory wall for global markets. China-only availability isn't just a business decision — it's partly a shipping constraint. For now, US and UK owners of the Xiaomi 14 series have no equivalent option.
