Ex-Dying Light chief Tymon Smektała joins Bloober Team

The man who ran Dying Light has a new job, and it decides which horror games Bloober Team publishes next. Tymon Smektała left Techland in May 2026 after 13 years and is now Executive Director of Broken Mirror Games, Bloober's publishing label. Two upcoming horror titles sit under his watch. If you follow the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, this shapes what you will be playing in 2027.

The hire

Smektała joined Techland in 2013 and worked on the first Dying Light and its The Following expansion. He became Franchise Director in November 2022. He announced the move on X, and stayed in Poland rather than taking a job abroad.

At Broken Mirror Games, he will pick which games the label backs and manage the relationship with the developers making them. Bloober set up the label in 2025 to grow beyond its own in-house projects. A designer who has shipped a major series should suit that job.

The lineup

Broken Mirror currently handles two games. The first is SAW: Genesis, a 3v1 asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, meaning one player hunts a team of three. Its Steam early access launch has slipped to Q1 2027 after alpha testing flagged problems.

The second is Onyx: The Dark Grip, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive that only works in handheld mode. It has no release date yet, but it is also expected in 2027.

The bigger plan

Bloober has four releases lined up through the end of 2027. Besides those two, they are Cronos: Lazarus and a Star Trek horror game, Star Trek: Shadow Frontier. The last two come from Bloober itself rather than the publishing label.

The studio built its name on horror remakes and licensed projects. Broken Mirror lets it spread its bets across more games, including multiplayer, instead of leaning on one hit.

Smektała's record with Dying Light is a good sign for the label, but it is not proof. Publishing other studios' games is a different job from running one franchise. The SAW delay shows the label is willing to hold a game back until it is ready.

Neither game has a firm date. SAW: Genesis should reach early access on PC in early 2027, and Onyx: The Dark Grip will follow later that year on Switch 2 only.
