Dell Pro Rugged 14: Новый стандарт прочности с Intel Core Ultra и защитой MIL-STD-810H
Dell has updated its "armored" Pro Rugged 14. This device is for those who work in conditions where an ordinary laptop falls apart in a week. Now it has fresh Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips, and the price starts at a point for which you can buy a decent used car.
Hardware for work, not for entertainment
The heart of the system includes Core Ultra 5 335, Core Ultra 5 336H, or Core Ultra 7 366H processors. Interestingly, Core Ultra processors here work with the new professional NVIDIA RTX PRO 500 graphics of the Blackwell architecture. This is not a gaming card, but it has 1792 CUDA cores and uses GDDR7 memory with a 288 GB/s bandwidth.
Another technical feature is LPCAMM2-8533 memory with a capacity of 16 to 64 GB. Using the LPCAMM2 standard saves up to 64% space on the motherboard while maintaining high data exchange speed. Storage options include SSDs ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB, including self-encrypting versions for paranoiacs or those working with truly sensitive data.
Protection and interfaces
The laptop is equipped with a 14-inch screen with a 1200p resolution. An optional panel with a brightness of 1100 cd/m² is available so the text can be read even under direct sunlight somewhere in the desert. The body can withstand a drop from a height of up to 90 cm. This is not bad, but the direct competitor Panasonic Toughbook 40 is certified to survive a drop from a height of up to 180 cm — exactly twice as much.
Nevertheless, the Dell Pro Rugged 14 undergoes rigorous testing according to MIL-STD-810H standards, which include resistance to vibrations and salt fog. The port set is specific: besides a pair of Thunderbolt 4, there is even a relic RS232 for connecting industrial equipment. Wi-Fi 7, GPS, and an optional Snapdragon X72 5G modem are also provided.
Autonomy and dimensions
The device weighs 2.13 kg — quite adequate for the protected class. However, the thickness of 33.6 mm reminds us that this is a tool and not an accessory. The base battery has a capacity of 53.5 W·h, but the design allows for a second identical battery to be installed for long trips in the field. Unlike the mass Googlebook series, this device is made to survive in a harsh environment, which justifies the price of $3945 (about 177,500 UAH).
